Image Making
Image-Making the Yeti
According to urban legends, Yeti is a two-legged white shaggy ape-like animal and is described to be 10-20 feet tall.
For this project, I decided to pick a folklore creature known as the Yeti and create a few different compositions in multiple mediums. This project was about practicing image-making in different creative ways be it digitally, painted, illustrated, mixed media, handcrafted, photo illustration, etc.
Iterations
One of my favorite iterations and compositions I created was a photo illustration. I was inspired by photo illustrations using painted body parts to create my yeti. I wanted to experiment to see if I could create a creature out of my hands. Because blue and white are associated with Yeti, I first used a light blue backdrop, but it was lacking dimension and wasn’t communicating that it was a yeti. I took a white shaggy rug and used that to replicate the Yeti’s shaggy fur. I painted the rest of my hand blue. I played with depth of field, I couldn’t decide if I wanted the fur to be blurred or focused. I realized I needed enough room to illustrate the face.
